FactoryTalk Historian Vision version 3.06.01 is compatible with these Rockwell Automation products:

Tip: FactoryTalk Historian SE version 6.00.00 has not been officially tested but is expected to work with limitations. Due to the version of Asset Framework included with version 6.00.00, search functionality and returned results only support name matches. Versions 7.00.00 and later support name and description matches in searches. We recommend that you upgrade FactoryTalk Historian SE version 5.01.00 and all previous versions to version 7.00.00 and later.

FactoryTalk Historian Vision version 3.06.01 has the following enhanced features:

• Long-running ACTs with dynamic search criteria do not take long to return data.
• Display Utility does not crash when re-adding displays for import.
• Value symbols with the right alignment on migrated ProcessBook displays stay aligned when their widths change.
• More than 11 image attachments can be added to a display.
• When parent and child FactoryTalk Historian Vision folders have the same name, the Display Utility copies their contents to different locations.
• Asset-based FactoryTalk Historian Vision calculations
Create simple calculations based on AF attributes on the fly in your FactoryTalk Historian Vision displays to better analyze a process in real time. This includes summary calculations like minimum, maximum and average, as well as simple arithmetic calculations on data items within the display. You can use calculations on any FactoryTalk Historian Vision symbols or configurations that support data items.

• Import and Export FactoryTalk Historian Vision displays using Offline Display Files
Import and export FactoryTalk Historian Vision displays using a readable display file format with the FactoryTalk Historian Vision Display Utility. This provides flexibility to move displays between unconnected servers and to manage your FactoryTalk Historian Vision displays. Import offline display files to a new server while maintaining display links, setting display access permissions, and persisting the source folder structure.

• Events Table with Event Attribute Values
View event attribute and related asset attribute values directly in the Events Table by dragging attributes from the Events pane. Jump into further analysis by using the context menu to open Event Details, create an Event Comparison display, do some ad hoc analysis in a pop-up trend, or apply the event time range to your FactoryTalk Historian Vision display.

• Wrap Text in Table Symbol: text-based columns can be configured to wrap onto multiple lines when text values exceed the column width.

• General Enhancements
• Snap to Grid: easily align and resize symbols, horizontally and vertically, using a background grid.
• Asset List Configuration: show the fewest number of AF hierarchy levels in the asset list that make the assets unambiguous to the end user.

• Calculations Admin Report
View detailed information about calculations used in FactoryTalk Historian Vision displays to monitor usage in your environment.

• Processbook Migration Utility
Use the processbook migration utility to analyze and migrate your ProcessBook displays to FactoryTalk Historian Vision (PI Vision). Results are viewable in the utility itself and generated reports.

FactoryTalk Historian Vision version 3.06.01 has the following changes in functionality since the last release:

Change in operating system support

Beginning in this release, the product installer prevents installation on all 32-bit versions of Windows operating systems (for example, Windows 10, 32-bit) and any Windows 7 operating system (for example, Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit).

Installation and Upgrade

We recommend that you read PI Vision 2021 Installation and Administration Guide before installing FactoryTalk Historian Vision.

The file <Installation package>\Setup.exe should be run locally as an administrator to install FactoryTalk Historian Vision. The installation includes:

• Creating a FactoryTalk Historian Vision website
• Creating a FactoryTalk Historian Vision Administration website
• Updating the configuration of the default AF server
• Installing the FactoryTalk Historian Vision application server
• Installing the FactoryTalk Historian Vision Display Utility

Installation prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be met before installing the FactoryTalk Historian Vision application server. If these requirements are not met, the installation of FactoryTalk Historian Vision will not succeed.

• Windows Server 2012 or later
• This server must be on the same domain as the FactoryTalk Historian SE system and FactoryTalk Historian Vision database
• Windows Server Core operating systems are supported unless the Claims to Windows Token Service (C2WTS) is required for third-party authentication support.
• Microsoft SQL Server 2014 or later
• Standard, Enterprise, or Express
• SSL certificate
• A self-signed certificate can be created during the installation if another certificate does not already exist.
• Historian AF Server write permission
• Write permission to the Configuration database on at least one Historian AF Server is required for the person installing FactoryTalk Historian Vision.

Silent Installation

To invoke a silent installation of FactoryTalk Historian Vision, follow the instructions in the Perform silent installation section of the PI Vision 2021 Installation and Administration Guide.

Upgrading from an existing version of FactoryTalk Historian Vision

FactoryTalk Historian Vision version 3.06.01 supports upgrading from all previous installations of Vision, but only upgrades from the previous two releases have been tested.

Configuring FactoryTalk Historian Vision

The document PI Vision 2021 Installation and Administration Guide contains configuration information that must be completed before FactoryTalk Historian Vision will be functional. This includes creating and configuring a FactoryTalk Historian Vision database and connecting to appropriate FactoryTalk Historian SE system resources (Data Archives and Historian AF databases).

Uninstalling FactoryTalk Historian Vision version 3.06.01

To uninstall FactoryTalk Historian Vision, launch the Programs and Features Control Panel applet, select PI Vision 2021 Patch 1, and select Uninstall.

Kerberos Delegation

Some features within FactoryTalk Historian Vision (PI Vision) by default will attempt to impersonate the end user when trying to retrieve information. Impersonation is possible through Kerberos constrained delegation (or RBCD) when Windows authentication is being used but is also possible with Basic authentication. It is recommended to implement delegation as opposed to Basic authentication when possible as it's the more secure of the two options. The list of features below that have this default behavior is specific to this released version.

Impersonation to Asset Framework (AF)

FactoryTalk Historian Vision (PI Vision) will attempt to impersonate the end user for the following features which means, when Vision is using Windows Authentication, they will fail unless delegation has been configured.

Features that attempt delegation by default:

• Event acknowledgment, annotation, and setting reason codes
• Attribute Value filter excepting static attributes in:
  • Events (including Events Table) search criteria > Event Type and Attribute Value > Event Attribute
  • Collection search criteria > Asset Type > Asset Attribute
  • Asset Comparison Table dynamic search criteria > Asset Type > Asset Attribute
  • Bar Chart dynamic search criteria > Asset Type > Asset Attribute
• Data retrieval for attributes with:
  • Custom data reference (DR)
  • Table Lookup DR if the externally linked table was configured with Impersonate Client security

Impersonation can be disabled. However, we do not recommend disabling end user impersonation for these features as they were implemented as a security feature. Contact technical support for details on how to configure or change this setting.

Impersonation to Data Archive

FactoryTalk Historian Vision (PI Vision) will attempt to impersonate the end user for data calls in general and when searching for tags in Vision but will not fail without delegation configuration if a catch-all mapping or PI Trust is configured. When Vision is using Windows Authentication, the delegation would be needed in the specific scenarios listed below:

• Different users/groups have permissions to view different PI point subsets and you don't want them to be able to:
  • Search for PI Points they don't have access to in the Historian SE data archive
  • View data for points they don't have access to in the Historian SE data archive
