Required software

FactoryTalk ViewPoint is an add-on to an existing FactoryTalk View system and requires FactoryTalk View version 13.00.00.

FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition automatically installs the following required software on the host computer, if necessary:

• FactoryTalk Alarms and Events version 6.30.00
• FactoryTalk View Site Edition Client version 13.00.00

Firmware requirements

FactoryTalk View ME can create Machine Edition Runtime applications (.mer) that run on PanelView Plus graphic terminals. The PanelView Plus firmware must support the .mer file to host FactoryTalk ViewPoint content.

There are no new or enhanced features in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Machine Edition version 13.00.00.

FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 13.00.00 has the following enhanced features:

• Supports mobile access to Automatic Diagnostics

  Automatic Diagnostics messages are available in FactoryTalk ViewPoint, which now allows operators to easily access device diagnostic information remotely, from a mobile device.

• Supports a new data source for the Data Grid control

  You can visualize FactoryTalk View SE data log models on a web client in addition to information from an MS SQL Database.

• Supports XY Plot on FactoryTalk ViewPoint trend

  FactoryTalk ViewPoint extends mobile trending capabilities by providing the ability to plot two sets of production data, one as a function of the other: y=f(x).

• Supports to embed FactoryTalk ViewPoint client on a webpage

  You can embed a FactoryTalk ViewPoint client on a webpage using the desktop URL.

The list identifies the anomalies corrected in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 13.00.00. Use the identification information provided in the anomaly heading to track the anomaly in future releases or for reference when receiving assistance from Customer Support with a related issue.

• Tag parameters cannot be resolved in the message displayed in FactoryTalk Diagnostics. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Machine Edition version 12.00.00. [Jira 1415315]
• The pinch-to-zoom function is not supported on an iPad or iPhone in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 10.00.00 or later. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Machine Edition version 12.00.00. [Jira 1013320]
• When the default languages of FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Machine Edition and FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition are different, numeric input enable button objects appear garbled in whichever supported browser. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Machine Edition version 12.00.00. [Jira 1250957]
• Rotation animation does not work with objects referencing a direct reference tag. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Machine Edition version 12.00.00. [Jira 1289598]
• Nested parameters cannot be passed if the Dock option is selected. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 12.00.00. [Jira 1355484]
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not execute commands on a button when the HMI server is nested within a subarea. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 12.00.00. [Jira 1288081]
• A long press on a button can cause the action not to execute on a mobile device. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.00.00. [353145]

• When the HMI server and the FactoryTalk ViewPoint server are on different computers, FactoryTalk View SE commands, such as Set and = (Equal) cannot change the client tag values in the FactoryTalk ViewPoint server. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 13.00.00. [Jira 1178627]
  To avoid this problem, use a numeric or string input object to change the client tag values or set up the HMI server and the FactoryTalk ViewPoint server on the same computer.

• PanelView Plus 7 Performance Series A supports only TLS version 1.0. TLS version 1.0 and 1.1 are not supported on Google Chrome browser version 93.0 or later, Microsoft Edge based on corresponding Chromium, and Mozilla Firefox version 78.0 or later. So, the HTTPS connection might not work if opening FactoryTalk ViewPoint site (https://hostname/FTVP) or PanelView Plus 7 Web Admin site (https://hostname/WebAdmin). First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Machine Edition version 13.00.00. [Jira 1467460]
  To avoid this problem, upgrade to PanelView Plus 7 Performance Series B or use these browsers:
  • Google Chrome browser version 92.0 or earlier (or Microsoft Edge based on corresponding Chromium)
  • Mozilla Firefox version 77.0 or earlier

• In the mobile mode, an error occurs when navigating back to the previous page in the Microsoft Edge Legacy browser on Surface. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 13.00.00. [Jira 970898]
  To avoid this problem, use the new Microsoft Edge or other supported browsers.

• If backstyle is transparent on an object, color animation might not be supported. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 8.00.00. [347896]
  If color animation is required, use a non-transparent backstyle.

• Trailing space in a graphic display name causes an error in FactoryTalk ViewPoint. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 1.10.00. [288673]
  To avoid this problem, remove the trailing space from the graphic display name and republish the application.

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trends do not support min/max connections to a tag or parameter. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 2.60.00. [359510]
  To avoid this problem, input min/max values into the trend directly to set preset or custom Y-axis values.

• When a user group is a child of another user group, the Security Settings tab in FactoryTalk ViewPoint Administration shows read and write permissions are disabled even when those permissions have been enabled. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 2.60.00. [346576]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• If a user account is locked in FactoryTalk ViewPoint, the account is still active in FactoryTalk View ME. First identified in FactoryTalk View ME version 8.00.00 [367826]

To unlock the user account in FactoryTalk ViewPoint, reload the application on the PanelView Plus family terminal.

• A FactoryTalk ViewPoint trend can only show 32 pens. If the FactoryTalk View trend object has more than 32 tags assigned, they cannot be viewed or selected in FactoryTalk ViewPoint. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 8.10.00. [356147]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• Pen tooltips in a FactoryTalk ViewPoint trend only show the first 128 characters of pen names. Tag names longer than 128 characters are truncated. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 8.10.00. [356149]
  To avoid this problem, restrict the tag name that will be used in a trend to 128 characters or less.

• A FactoryTalk ViewPoint trend cannot show the oldest data from the FactoryTalk Historian server. Instead, the trend only shows the oldest data available in the client cache. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 8.00.00. [347211]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• If backstyle is transparent on a multi-state indicator, the blink function is not supported. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 2.60.00. [347413]
  If the blink function is required, use a non-transparent backstyle.

• Very large display canvas sizes are shown blank when using the RetainAspectRatio parameter. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 8.10.00. [356995, 359261]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• Text object may show "*" if the Size to fit check box is cleared in the Text Properties dialog box. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Machine Edition version 8.10.00. [367209]
  To show text properly, select the Size to fit check box.

• Android™ device sessions do not timeout due to inactivity if the screen is locked. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.10.00. [356421]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• Selecting an option from a display list using the keyboard navigates to the display instead of only highlighting the option. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.10.00. [356575]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• When the last option in a display list is highlighted, pressing the down arrow to highlight the next option does not wrap to the first option in the list. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.10.00. [356576]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• Pinch zoom in Internet Explorer sometimes causes unintended clicks; therefore, pinch zoom has been disabled for Internet Explorer on all touch-screen Windows devices. This applies only to Internet Explorer. Google Chrome browser and Safari are not affected. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.10.00. [357017]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• When using the Mobile interface, Alarm Summary objects show on top of or outside of the display boundaries. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.10.00. [358691]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• When opening a graphic display using parameter tags and the tag names contain multiple special characters, such as [, {, \, and alike, the web address may exceed 2048 characters and the display cannot be opened. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 9.00.00. [362765]
  To avoid this problem, use a parameter file, instead of parameter tags.

• When the docked display is an opened On Top display, the Display command parameters, [/DL], [/DR], [/DT], and [/DB] do not work. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.00.00. [347824]
  To avoid this problem, do not dock an On Top display.

• The tooltip does not show for numeric input, numeric display, string input, or string display object if the object has touch or hyperlink animation configured. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.10.00. [367433]
  To avoid this problem, do not use tooltip when touch or hyperlink animation is configured for the object.

• String and Numeric Input objects may show incorrectly when the display size is set using the Display /H or /W commands. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 8.10.0. [356833]
  To avoid this problem, do not use the Display /H or /W commands. If you need to change the display size, specify the display size on the Properties tab of the Display Settings dialog box.

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint log file size increases by 4.6 GB per day because logging is turned on by default in Internet Information Services (IIS) settings. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 11.00.00. [Anomaly 103410]
  To mitigate this problem, Microsoft provides the following ways on managing IIS log file storage:

• Enable folder compression
• Move the log folder to a remote system
• Delete old log files by script
• Delete old log files by the IIS Log File Cleaner
• Customize W3C Logging Fields

• When trend displays are opened on multiple tabs in a browser, the browser may stop responding. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 11.00.00. [Anomaly 148451]
  To avoid this problem, open one trend display at a time.

• When loading a large number of alarm events, for example 1,000 alarm events, on a trend display in Internet Explorer or Edge, the browser may respond slowly or stop responding. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 11.00.00. [Anomaly 166797]
  To avoid this problem, open the trend display in Chrome or other browsers.

• In the mobile mode, quick filter cannot show the total number of results on the Recipes page. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 10.00.00. [Anomaly 171354]
  There is currently no workaround for this anomaly.

• When setting the extended tag property value to a tag using the Set command, the tag always shows the English value on a FactoryTalk ViewPoint client even if the application’s default language is not English. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 9.00.00. [Anomaly 179037]
  To show the correct extended tag property value, use a numeric or string input object, instead of the command.

• Trend slidebar does not work in Google Chrome browser or new Microsoft Edge on Surface, or Safari in the Request Desktop Website mode on iPad. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 11.00.00. [Jira 881132]
  To avoid this problem, use pinch-to-zoom to change the timespan or use swipe to change the timeline. On iPad, you can also switch to the Request Mobile Website mode.

• Some elements of an SVG image may be shown incorrectly in the Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer browsers. First identified in FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 12.00.00. [Jira 404325]
  To avoid this problem, use the Google Chrome browser or Safari browser.

FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 13.00.00 has the following changes in functionality since the last release:

Change in operating system support

Beginning in this release, the product installer prevents installation on all 32-bit versions of Windows operating systems (for example, Windows 10, 32-bit) and any Windows 7 operating system (for example, Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit).

FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 13.00.00 has the following changes in functionality since the last release:

An unlimited number of client connections

FactoryTalk ViewPoint will not check licenses.

HTTPS enabled by default

If you install FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition, the installation enables HTTPS by default.

If HTTPS is enabled, you must configure a TLS certificate after installation. If you do not configure the certificate, there will be unexpected errors when operating FactoryTalk ViewPoint. For details on configuring a TLS certificate, see FactoryTalk ViewPoint Quick Start Guide.

The following are the application notes for FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 13.00.00.

VeriSign Universal Root Certification Authority certificate

If the VeriSign Universal Root Certification Authority certificate does not exist on the local computer, the certificate is installed while installing Rockwell Automation software. Use Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to view the certificate in Console Root > Certificates (Local Computer) > Trusted Root Certification Authorities > Certificates.

Unattended or silent install

Use command-line parameters to perform an unattended or silent installation of the software.

Command-line parameters

The following table identifies the installation command-line parameters. Command-line parameters are case-insensitive. However, if a specified value includes a space, be sure to enclose the value in quotation marks (for example, "value with spaces").

Application notes for FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition version 13.00.00.

HTTPS enabled by default

If you install FactoryTalk ViewPoint for Site Edition, the installation enables HTTPS by default.

If HTTPS is enabled, you must configure a TLS certificate after installation. If you do not configure the certificate, there will be unexpected errors when operating FactoryTalk ViewPoint. For details on configuring a TLS certificate, see FactoryTalk ViewPoint Quick Start Guide.

Mitigation for Microsoft DCOM Hardening patch

In response to Microsoft Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) Hardening patch (MS KB5004442), the minimum DCOM authentication level used by Rockwell Automation products was raised to Packet Integrity.

Microsoft releases the DCOM Hardening patch in response to CVE-2021-26414. This patch elevates the minimum DCOM authentication level that is required to establish a DCOM connection. DCOM is used by many Rockwell Automation products and may be affected by the change that is made by the Microsoft patch. For additional information about the affected Rockwell Automation products, see the Knowledgebase Document ID: PN1581 - Product Notification 2022-01-001 - Rockwell Automation products unable to establish proper DCOM connection after installing Microsoft DCOM Hardening patch (MS KB5004442).

Unsupported FactoryTalk View features

Graphic displays that contain unsupported objects or features can still be published to a FactoryTalk ViewPoint server and viewed in a web browser. During the publishing process, unsupported objects are removed from displays, so that they do not interfere with the web application.

Each unsupported object or feature generates a warning during publishing, which is recorded in the publishing report. To check the report, after publishing is finished, click the link View publishing report.

FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support the following FactoryTalk View objects or features:

Graphic display properties

• Resize and position settings are ignored when a display is opened in a web browser. Displays are scaled to fit the web browser window by default.
• Startup and shutdown commands are not supported.
• A to P codes for securing displays at run time are not supported.
• Macros defined on screens are not supported.
• Display keys are not supported.
• Track Screen for Navigation and Track Name are not supported.

Graphic objects and object properties

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support:
  • Gauge
  • Key
  • OLE
  • ActiveX controls
  • Electronic signature
  • Advanced objects: arrows, piloted control list selectors, and recipe
  • .Net controls
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support the Use parameter placeholder for initial URL function of the Web Browser graphic object.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint only supports the show exponent format for the following graphic objects:
  • Numeric input
  • Numeric display
  • TrendX
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint only supports dynamic decimal places for digital and analog tags. String tags are not supported.
• Multistate objects that cannot get tag data will show in outline form, instead of showing an Error state.
• Objects with a gradient back color are shown in FactoryTalk ViewPoint with a solid color using the start color of the gradient. Trend objects show with a white background.
• Tooltip text is only supported for numeric display, numeric input, string input, string display, Ramp button, Momentary, button, Multistate button, and Maintained button.
• The FactoryTalk View SE Button object only supports Set, Ramp, = (Equal), Toggle, Display, and Abort commands. These commands can be executed individually, serially, or from a macro.
• Alarm and Event banners, log viewers, status explorers, and alarm acknowledgements are not supported. When detected in a display, a FactoryTalk alarm and event summary is replaced with a FactoryTalk ViewPoint alarm summary.
• Navigation commands (such as DisplayPreviousScreen) are not supported. The web application can be published, but the navigation command will not be executed in FactoryTalk ViewPoint. Likewise, a FactoryTalk View SE application containing a NavigationButton object can be published, but the object is omitted from the web application.
• Objects with a Pattern Style property in FactoryTalk View are shown without the pattern in the published FactoryTalk ViewPoint application.

  To avoid this problem, do not use Pattern Style properties to communicate any critical state or message in a FactoryTalk ViewPoint application.

• Delay could be longer than the momentary push button's Hold Time property. The nature of Internet traffic does not guarantee that the server receives data packets in the same order that the client sent them. When an On Press or On Release event occurs for a momentary push button, FactoryTalk ViewPoint waits for a server response before sending the next value. FactoryTalk ViewPoint uses the longer of the following two times:
  • The specified Hold Time
  • The time it takes to receive a response from the server that the On Press or On Release event was received
• When a display contains both control objects with tags and control objects without tags, control objects without tags are shown differently in the browser window than they are on the graphic terminal.
• When detected in a display, a FactoryTalk View trend object is replaced with a FactoryTalk ViewPoint trend.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trends do not support trend objects smaller than 300x400 pixels.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trend does not support the following properties specified in the Trend Object Properties dialog box:

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trends do not support the following trend pro object properties:

• The Enter and Enter Handshake connections are not supported.

Object animation

• Horizontal and vertical sliders show current positions only. The sliders do not respond when dragged.
• Object keys are not supported.
• Supports dynamic decimal places for the following graphic objects:
  • Numeric input object in the Floating point or Show exponent format
  • Numeric display object in the Floating point or Show exponent format

    The number of places after the decimal point changes dynamically based on the linked tag value.

• Supports hyperlink animation only when the hyperlink includes http:// or https://.
  • If the hyperlink is an absolute path to a public web resource, for example, http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/qs/ftvp-qs002_-en-e.pdf, clicking the graphic object will open the hyperlink destination on a new tab page.
  • If the hyperlink is a local web resource, for example, http://ComputerName/ftvp-qs002_-en-e.pdf, where ComputerName is the name or IP address of the intranet web server computer hosting the resource, to open the hyperlink destination, you need add a virtual directory in IIS Manager. For more information about how to configure IIS, see "Configure IIS for hyperlink animation" in FactoryTalk View SE Help.

Logic and control functions

• Client keys are not supported.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint only supports the following commands:
  • Abort
  • Display

• Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is not supported.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support functions.
  • CurrentUserName() returns "WebClientUser", and the other security functions return "FALSE".
  • PrimaryServerStatus and SecondaryServerStatus return "-2147483647" or "0x80000001" only, which means unknown.

Local message files

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support local message files created in RSView 4.00 (CPR7) and earlier. References to local message files created in RSView 4.00 (or earlier) will not work in a published web application.

  To convert the references successfully, open and save the local message file in FactoryTalk View Studio and then re-publish the web application.

Network Distributed application conversion

• Network Distributed applications may not convert during publishing if the displays are on more than one server and use a large number of images.

  To avoid this problem, increase the size of the browser's temporary folder for the System user to 1024 MB.

Upgrading FactoryTalk ViewPoint from version 8.00.00 or earlier

Upgrading to FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 10.00.00 from version 8.00.00 or earlier changes existing FactoryTalk ViewPoint application and object behavior. Review the following list to determine if design or configuration changes are required in your application before performing an upgrade.

Re-publish all displays and download a new .mer file to each terminal after upgrading to FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 10.00.00.

Trend

• When the trend object is drawn small or scaled to a small device, the pen legend and X-axis scroll bar is hidden to help maximize the displayed trend area. Choose trend settings to re-enable. The smallest size the alarm object will draw or scale down to is 300x400 pixels. [TFS 62868, 64564, 63838]
• The Y-axis of the trend object is automatically rendered based on the size of the browser window. Custom Y-axis settings may not be displayed if the size of the browser window is very different from the original display size. [TFS 69476]
• The trend object will always be drawn completely, even if it hangs off the end of an On Top display. [TFS 62313]
• At runtime, the trend object will be brought to the foreground of the display, so any objects that are drawn over a trend object will be covered or hidden.
• Zooming/Panning: Selecting inside the trend and dragging the cursor will zoom in the selected area and set the X-axis to that selection. In the Silverlight trend, this action used to pan through the data. Panning is now accomplished using the scroll bar under the trend.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trends no longer support the export of the displayed trend to CSV file.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trends display a value bar that follows the cursor is inside the trend. The value bar cannot be fixed and moved across the trend.

Conversion to HTML 5

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trends do not support the creation of trend snapshots.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trends do not include a value bar that can be moved across the trend.
• Microsoft Silverlight is not required to view a FactoryTalk ViewPoint web application.
• Text alignment is not maintained in the published FactoryTalk ViewPoint application. When a FactoryTalk View application contains text objects, embedded variables, or objects containing text (such as captions), the alignment specified in the FactoryTalk View application is not maintained when the application is published to ViewPoint. All text in the FactoryTalk ViewPoint application is shown left-aligned.

Text

• The appearance of text by font size or weight may vary by browser and device platform.
• The appearance of truncated and word-wrapped text may vary by browser and device platform since each of them handles scaled object width/height calculations differently. [TFS 49997]

String and Numeric input

• String and Numeric inputs bring up the scratchpad for data entry which must be clicked before data can be entered.
• When entering string or numeric data on a touch-device without an external keyboard attached, the built-in device keyboard will automatically be presented to the user when possible.
• When selecting a string or numeric data field, the display will automatically zoom in to the entry field making data entry easier. Following HTML5 standards, the display will not automatically zoom out until the user clicks the display outside of the entry field. [351557, 355750]
• At runtime, string and numeric inputs cannot be hidden behind another object on the screen due to the way input objects are handled by HTML and drawn on the screen. They will always appear to the foreground of the display. [TFS 59187]

Alarms

• When an alarm object is drawn small or scaled to a small device, only the message and priority columns are displayed. Selecting an alarm will show its complete details. The smallest size the alarm object will draw or scale down to is 250x250 pixels. [TFS 62410]
• The alarm object will always be drawn completely, even if it hangs off the end of an On Top display. [TFS 60631]
• At runtime, the alarm object will be brought to the foreground of the display, so any objects that are drawn over an alarm object will be covered or hidden.

Regional settings

• Regional settings for decimal displays, datetime format, and the like are supported only for the default formats of a selected language. Custom formats made after the selected language will not be shown. [TFS 59283, 59282]
• The behavior of regional settings varies by browser. Internet Explorer supports the regional settings of Windows, while Google Chrome browser and Mozilla® Firefox® require the language setting to be selected in the browser. [TFS 55075]

FactoryTalk Security

• FactoryTalk users in a default FactoryTalk Security group (such as Administrators) are denied access to a FactoryTalk ViewPoint client. The error message shown is "Unauthorized: You are not authorized to view display displayname."

  To address this issue, verify that the FactoryTalk user belongs to the FactoryTalk User Group that has Write or View access to the display that the user is trying to access. For updated information, subscribe to Knowledgebase Document ID: QA47921 - FactoryTalk ViewPoint 2.00 : Unauthorized: You are not authorized to view display [<display name>].

  Note that the FactoryTalk Security user group, Administrators, cannot currently be used for FactoryTalk ViewPoint Security. If FactoryTalk user belongs to the Administrators group, the FactoryTalk User should be added to a different role or FactoryTalk Security user group that the desired permissions can be given to.

Installation

• If static content is not enabled, the FactoryTalk ViewPoint client fails to connect to the FactoryTalk ViewPoint server installed on Windows 7 operating systems.

  To avoid this problem, enable Static Content when configuring IIS for Windows 7 operating systems.

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint cannot be uninstalled if Internet Information Services (IIS) is uninstalled first.

  To avoid this problem, uninstall FactoryTalk ViewPoint first.

• Installing FactoryTalk ViewPoint Server on a computer with FactoryTalk View Studio for Machine Edition installed alters Studio behavior. After installing the FactoryTalk ViewPoint Server on an Engineering workstation that has only FactoryTalk View Studio for Machine Edition installed, Studio behaves as if a full install of FactoryTalk Supervisory Edition was done.

  Currently there is no solution for this issue except to be aware that the full install of Supervisory Edition has not been performed on the engineering workstation however Machine Edition and ViewPoint will function properly. Publishing displays

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint client did not get updated after removing Global Object from FactoryTalk View Studio. After the Global Object is removed, the publishing process does not pick up the change therefore the Global Object still appears on the display. The same results are seen if the Global Object is deleted (instead of being removed) in FactoryTalk View. This anomaly occurs in ViewPoint publishing with any display that has missing references (Global Objects, parameter files, macros, and alike), not just specifically Global Objects.

  To avoid this problem, manually republish the application.

• Cannot publish FactoryTalk View SE application when primary FactoryTalk View SE server is offline.

  To avoid this problem, ensure the primary FactoryTalk View SE server is online before publishing an application.

• Background publishing does not pick up changes made to a parameter file.

  To avoid this problem, manually publish the application after the parameter file is changed.

• Background publishing does not work after upgrading to a new release of ViewPoint.

  To avoid this problem, after upgrading FactoryTalk ViewPoint, manually republish the application. This will allow the background publishing to operate properly and is only necessary the first time an application is accessed after an upgrade.

Navigation

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint application pages intermittently fail to load in the browser. When using a browser to navigate (forward, back, or history) within FactoryTalk ViewPoint applications, some pages may not load. You will not receive an error message and the only indication will be the browser page will remain the same, but the address bar will change to the new page.

  To avoid this problem, refresh or reload the browser page.

• Internet Explorer performance issues after running one FactoryTalk ViewPoint display for extended periods of time. In Internet Explorer, running one FactoryTalk ViewPoint display for extended periods of time could affect browser performance due to the increasing size of the internet cache (under both the local and system user). As a result, if FactoryTalk ViewPoint detects that the same display has been running in a web browser for more than one hour, the browser will be refreshed automatically.

• When cookies are disabled, FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not present pages properly. Depending on the browser, FactoryTalk ViewPoint will prevent user logins, show blank pages, or show an error that cookies are disabled.

  To avoid this problem, enable cookies.

Browser compatibility

• By default, Internet Explorer shows the pages from an intranet site in Compatibility View, which downgrades Internet Explorer to a version that does not support FactoryTalk ViewPoint HTML5.

  To avoid this problem, disable the Display intranet sites in Compatibility View option in the browser's Compatibility View Settings.

KEPServer

• If you are using KEPServer Enterprise as an OPC server with FactoryTalk View and FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 9.00.00 or later, you will not be able to access the tag value. The cause is that the security enhancements in FactoryTalk View and FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 9.00.00 or later affect the communications. To access the tag value, additional Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) configuration is required for KEPServer Enterprise on the computers.

Unsupported FactoryTalk View features

Graphic displays that contain unsupported objects or features can still be published to a FactoryTalk ViewPoint server and viewed in a web browser. During the publishing process, unsupported objects are removed from displays, so that they do not interfere with the web application.

Each unsupported object or feature generates a warning during publishing, which is recorded in the publishing report. To check the report, after publishing is finished, click the link View publishing report.

FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support the following FactoryTalk View objects or features:

Multiple language support

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint only supports English language in display names, local message file names, image file names, and parameter file names.

Graphic display properties

• Resize and position settings are ignored when a display is opened in a web browser. Displays are scaled to fit the web browser window by default.
• Startup and shutdown commands are not supported.
• A to P codes for securing displays at run time are not supported.

Graphic objects and object properties

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support:
  • Gauge
  • Key
  • OLE
  • ActiveX controls
  • Electronic signature
  • Advanced objects: HMI tag alarm summaries, arrows, piloted control list selectors, and recipe
• Multistate objects that cannot get tag data will show in outline form, instead of showing an Error state.
• Objects with a gradient back color are shown in FactoryTalk ViewPoint with a solid color using the start color of the gradient. Trend objects show with a white background.
• When a display contains both control objects with tags and control objects without tags, control objects without tags are shown differently in the browser window than they are on the graphic terminal.
• Delay could be longer than the momentary push button's Hold Time property. The nature of Internet traffic does not guarantee that the server receives data packets in the same order that the client sent them. When an On Press or On Release event occurs for a momentary push button, FactoryTalk ViewPoint waits for a server response before sending the next value. FactoryTalk ViewPoint uses the longer of the following two times:
  • The specified Hold Time
  • The time it takes to receive a response from the server that the On Press or On Release event was received
• Objects with a Pattern Style property in FactoryTalk View are shown without the pattern in the published FactoryTalk ViewPoint application.

  To avoid this problem, do not use Pattern Style properties to communicate any critical state or message in a FactoryTalk ViewPoint application.

• When detected in a display, a FactoryTalk View trend object is replaced with a FactoryTalk ViewPoint trend.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trends do not support trend objects smaller than 300x400 pixels.
• FactoryTalk ViewPoint trend does not support the following properties specified in the Trend Object Properties dialog box:

• The Enter and Enter Handshake connections are not supported.

Object animation

• Horizontal and vertical sliders show current positions only. The sliders do not respond when dragged.
• Only supports the hyperlink animation when the hyperlink is an absolute path to a public web resource, for example, http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/qs/ftvp-qs002_-en-e.pdf.

Logic and control functions

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support functions.
  • CurrentUserName() returns "WebClientUser", and the other security functions return "FALSE".

Number of lines of text

• Text on message displays and string displays have a different number of lines of text shown between the PanelView Plus terminal and the FactoryTalk ViewPoint client. This occurs no matter the size of the browser window. Typically the text shown in the FactoryTalk ViewPoint client has more lines than a PanelView Plus terminal.

Internet Explorer performance issue

• Internet Explorer performance issues after running one FactoryTalk ViewPoint display for extended periods of time. In Internet Explorer, running one FactoryTalk ViewPoint display for extended periods of time could affect browser performance due to the increasing size of the internet cache (under both the local and system user). Local message files created in RSView 4.00 (CPR 7) and earlier

• FactoryTalk ViewPoint does not support local message files created in RSView 4.00 (CPR7) and earlier. References to local message files created in RSView 4.00 (or earlier) will not work in a published web application.

  To convert the references successfully, open and save the local message file in FactoryTalk View Studio and then re-publish the web application.

Upgrading FactoryTalk ViewPoint from version 8.00.00 or earlier

Upgrading to FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 10.00.00 from version 8.00.00 or earlier changes existing FactoryTalk ViewPoint application and object behavior. Review the following list to determine if design or configuration changes are required in your application before performing an upgrade.

Re-publish all displays and download a new .mer file to each terminal after upgrading to FactoryTalk ViewPoint version 10.00.00.

Trend
