The following are the system requirements for FactoryTalk Transaction Manager version 13.10.00.

FactoryTalk Transaction Manager works within the system requirements of all Rockwell Automation software products. For the latest information regarding software platform support, refer to Product Compatibility and Download Center.

FactoryTalk Transaction Manager 13.10 is compatible with the following Rockwell Automation products:

• FactoryTalk Services Platform 6.21 (required)
• FactoryTalk Activation 4.04 or 4.05
• FactoryTalk Linx 6.21
• FactoryTalk Metrics 13.0

If using FactoryTalk Transaction Manager with RSBizWare (FactoryTalk Metrics or FactoryTalk Historian Classic), install FactoryTalk Transaction Manager from the RSBizWare media. Other versions of FactoryTalk Transaction Manager may be incompatible.

Software requirements

The software listed in this section is the software with which FactoryTalk Transaction Manager 13.10 was tested at the time of the release.

Database installation

FactoryTalk Transaction Manager does not install or configure a database. Therefore, a database must be accessible to your FactoryTalk Transaction Manager application.

If a database has already been installed at your site, your database administrator should handle the administration necessary to connect to the database and provide connection information (user name and password).

See the RSBizWare Administration Guide for detailed instructions on how to create an SQL Server or Oracle database for use with RSBizWare or FactoryTalk Transaction Manager.

FactoryTalk Transaction Manager supports the following versions of SQL Server and Oracle.

FactoryTalk Transaction Manager interfaces with these databases via the following systems:

• ODBC (SQL Server and Oracle)
  It is an industry standard supported by most major database vendors in the industry, including Oracle, Sybase, and Informix. However, different versions of ODBC drivers can impact compatibility.

• OLE DB (SQL Server only)
  It is implemented in Microsoft SQL Server and provides another method for accessing SQL Server. The versions of Microsoft SQL Server supported by OLE DB are the same as for the ODBC driver.
  You can convert an existing ODBC connector to OLE DB, or build a new OLE DB connector from scratch.

• OCI (Oracle only)
  It is implemented for Oracle only. Different versions of OCI drivers can impact compatibility.

For known issues related to specific databases, refer to the technical notes in the Rockwell Automation Knowledgebase.

Windows Server

Windows Server and Windows Server Native Client 11.0 are the supported ODBC drivers for Windows Server databases. The version required is dependent on the operating system you are using.

For OLE DB drivers, use the version listed for the SQL Server Native Client ODBC drivers.

Oracle

For Oracle, both ODBC and OCI drivers are supported. Regardless of the type of driver used, you must have a net client included to facilitate the connection.

Software requirements for connectors

Control connectors

The control connector services manage the interaction between the industrial control system and the FactoryTalk Transaction Manager service in the FactoryTalk Transaction Manager.

Enterprise database connectors

The enterprise database connector services manage FactoryTalk Transaction Manager interaction between a database and the Transaction Control Manager service or FactoryTalk Transaction Manager service.

Language settings

All languages are supported, but the system needs to have the English language added and set as default.

Other software

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 is updated during the FactoryTalk Transaction Manager installation.

The following are the corrected anomalies for FactoryTalk Transaction Manager 13.10.00.

FactoryTalk Transaction Manager has no corrected anomalies in this release.

• Importing an XML file that binds tags to the column name with the number 8 fails

  If a SQL Server table column name includes the number 8, when importing an XML file that binds tags to the column name to FactoryTalk Transaction Manager, an error occurs. First identified in FactoryTalk Transaction Manager version 10.20.00. [Jira 461309]

  To avoid this issue, do not include the number 8 in column names.

  Corrected in FactoryTalk Transaction Manager version 14.00.00.
  

• FactoryTalk Transaction Manager OCI Connector service stops responding on restart if the service is stopped using Toad

  If the FactoryTalk Transaction Manager OCI Connector service is stopped using Toad, when you restart the service, it stops responding on restart. First identified in FactoryTalk Transaction Manager version 12.10.00. [Jira 461322]

  To avoid this issue, do not use Toad to stop the FactoryTalk Transaction Manager OCI Connector service. Instead, use Microsoft Management Console to do so.

  Corrected in FactoryTalk Transaction Manager version 14.00.00.

SQL Server Management Studio version 2019 and SQL Server Reporting Services version 2019

In FactoryTalk Report Expert version 13.00.00, SQL Server Management Studio version 2019 and SQL Server Reporting Services version 2019 are not included in the installation package. Go to the following links to download these two components:

Upgrade

Activation options

Note: For up-to-date information on activation options for FactoryTalk Transaction Manager, consult the Rockwell Automation Knowledgebase article no. QA56641.

Activating FactoryTalk Transaction Manager software is determined by the following factors:

• Whether the control and enterprise connectors can be distributed among several computers (Professional) or must reside on one computer (Standard).
• The maximum number of tags (data points) that the Transaction Control Manager service or FactoryTalk Transaction Manager service will support.

Keep the following in mind about the FactoryTalk Transaction Manager activation:

• Previously, FactoryTalk Transaction Manager was sold without a restriction on the number of tags. Although this option is no longer available, customers who own this version can continue to use it without a restriction on the number of tags.
• Any FactoryTalk Transaction Manager activation must be installed on either a centralized or local activation server that will be running the Transaction Control Manager or the FactoryTalk Transaction Manager service.

Known issues

• The language of FactoryTalk Transaction Manager user interface
  The user interface of FactoryTalk Transaction Manager is available only in English.

• Invalid expressions edited with the Chinese Input Method Editor
  When you use the Chinese Input Method Editor in the English mode to edit expressions, the expressions may become invalid.
  To fix the issue, use the English keyboard layout for typing text and numbers in English, and the Chinese Input Method Editor for typing Chinese characters.

• The connector traffic light won't change to green to indicate a running service
  When you start your configuration, you may notice that the traffic light associated with one or more of your control connectors (for example, OPC) does not initially turn from red to green. It may occur when the appropriate connector service has not been initialized properly yet and has not responded to the FactoryTalk Transaction Manager service.
  To start the connector service
  1. Open FactoryTalk Transaction Manager.
  2. On the View menu, click Status Update.
      In the explorer tree, the status of all the elements is refreshed.
  3. Check which connector has not started. Its status is indicated with .
  4. From the Windows Start menu, open Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
      The Computer Management window appears.
  5. In the explorer tree, expand Services and Applications, and then click Services.
      The list of services is displayed in the right pane of the window.
  6. Find the connector service of your connector.
      For example, for an OPC connector the service is called FactoryTalk Transaction Manager OPC Connector.
      If the service is not started, right-click it, and then click Start.
  7. Wait until the service status changes to Started.
  8. Go back to FactoryTalk Transaction Manager.
  9. On the View menu, click Status Update.
      The connector for which you have turned on the service should now be started. Its status should be indicated with .

• Scheduled data points with a scan rate of 10 seconds or higher are not supported
  Scheduled data points with a scan rate of 10 seconds or higher are not supported in a transaction that uses a FactoryTalk control connector and FactoryTalk Transaction Manager or the Transaction Control Manager service.

• On change transaction is triggered when data point quality changes from bad to good
  If you have a transaction configured to be executed when an unscheduled data point changes (a +/- 0 delta value), it will be triggered when the quality of the data point changes from bad to good even if the actual value of the tag has not changed. The transaction will be triggered regardless of whether the Use Bad Quality Unscheduled Events check box is selected or not in the Trigger and Storage Parameters dialog box.

• Configuration may fail to start if there are cached transactions left after upgrade
  A configuration may fail to start if you have any cached transactions from the previous version of FactoryTalk Transaction Manager left after an upgrade.
  To fix this issue, delete all the .rsl files from the configuration directory.
