New
features
- This release of Studio 5000 Logix Emulate introduces the support for Studio 5000 Logix Designer. To emulate a controller that is released with a specific version of Studio 5000 Logix Emulate, the matching version of Studio 5000 Logix Designer is required. For example, to emulate a version 24.01 controller, use Studio 5000 Logix Designer version 24.01.
- Studio 5000 Logix Emulate for Operator Training (OTS) is a new version of Logix Emulate. It enables connectivity to process simulators and Operator Training Systems. Studio 5000 Logix Emulate for Operator Training is licensed on a per controller basis. Order the appropriate catalog number for the number of controllers, represented by xx, required to connect to external applications. For example: 9310-WEDOTSxx. Uninstall CodeMeter using Programs and Features, install Studio 5000 Logix Designer version 24.01 which installs CodeMeter version 5.20, install Studio5000 Logix Designer version 24.01 which installs CodeMeter version 5.20, and then install CodeMeter version 6.20 from the redist folder of the Studio 5000 Logix Emulate installation.

Considerations
before
installing
Studio
5000
Logix
Emulate:
- Verify that the software requirements for Rockwell Automation® products intended for installation with Studio 5000 Logix Emulate to ensure that the products are compatible with the system.
- Installing Studio 5000 Logix Emulate on any machine that already has SoftLogix5800 ™ installed is not allowed. Uninstall the previous versions of SoftLogix5800 first. Restart the computer if prompted.
- Install RSLinx Classic before installing Studio 5000 Logix Emulate. When installing RSLinx Classic after Studio 5000 Logix Emulate, run the SIRegEDS.exe program found in the RSEMU5000 directory on the installation CD.

Important:

After installing Studio 5000 Logix Emulate and
RSLinx Classic, add the Virtual Backplane driver in
RSLinx Classic to connect to the Emulate engine.
Persistent storage does not function without this
driver. Rebooting the computer clears the memory of
the controller. The program does not re-load.

Limitations
- Do not double-click the Studio 5000 Logix Emulate button on the installation browser screen. This can cause two copies of the Studio 5000 Logix Emulate installation procedure to launch. If two copies of the installation program start, performing a normal uninstall might not be possible. The error message "Failed to load dll: _UninstallTmp" appears when attempting the uninstall. Manually uninstall the program. The manual uninstall procedure is available as technical note document P19762551.
- While the Windows 8.1 operating system runs on many touch-enabled devices, various features of the Studio 5000 Logix Emulate application might not be touch-enabled. Most functions are expected to work with touch, but the software is tested only with a keyboard and a mouse.
- Running Studio 5000 Logix Emulate in conjunction with Fast-User Switching is not supported. Running Studio 5000 Logix Emulate software in Safe mode is not supported. Accessing Studio 5000 Logix Emulate using Remote Desktop on remote machines is not tested.
- Remotely accessing a computer running Studio 5000 Logix Emulate with Remote Desktop or similar application is not supported and can cause Studio 5000 Logix Emulate to crash. Remotely accessing a computer running Studio 5000 Logix Emulate is possible if RSLinx Enterprise Gateway is installed on the computer where Studio 5000 Logix Emulate is installed. Refer to the RSLinx Getting Results Guide LINX-GR001-EN.E.PDF for more information.
Performance
- Do not depend on the emulated controller to match the performance or operation of the physical controller. Some instructions are interpreted differently in an emulated controller than in a physical controller. Execution times for instructions and program files may be significantly different in an emulated controller than in a physical controller.
- Certain
operations
related
to
FactoryTalk
Security are
slower
on
Windows 7
than
on
Windows 8.1:
- Importing or exporting a FactoryTalk Services Platform secured project.
- Securing a controller or a component of a controller with logical name or permission set.
- Clicking the Security tab in the Controller Properties dialog box.

controller
restrictions
- For maximum portability across platforms, avoid mixed operand types between the destination and its inputs. To get identical results for similar operations across languages, perform floating point operations. Be aware that floating point operations can affect performance. Verify that operands are compatible with the I/O being used.
- There are instruction differences across programming languages and Logix platforms. The following examples use the operation i = n / m where all the operands are integers. Ladder DIV instructions perform an integer divide operation and store the immediate result in the destination. For ‘n’ = 800 and ‘m’ = 1000, ‘i’ is equal to 0. The DIV function block instructions only does floating point operation. The Function Block instruction converts the inputs to reals, if necessary, and converts the result from a real to the destination type, if necessary. In this example, ‘n’ is converted to 800.0 and ‘m’ is converted to 1000.0. The result of the operation is 0.8. That result gets converted to an integer where rounding rules apply and the final destination value is 1. This difference between Ladder and Function Block instructions applies to all Logix platforms. Function Block instructions only perform floating point operations.
- Installing Studio 5000 Logix Emulate after a SoftLogix controller is removed may not be possible. Removing SoftLogix software does not clear a registry key. For more information about troubleshooting this issue, see the Rockwell Automation Technical Support Knowledgebase ID 40036.
- If a Studio 5000 Logix Emulate controller experiences repeated minor faults, a red X appears. This happens in systems in which minor faults are repeatedly generated on each program scan. To avoid this, correct any programs that may cause repeated minor faults to occur.
