Where:
Functionally Identical
The module has the same functionality as the module in this release.
Functionally Compatible
The module will perform the same safety function, but some of the newer functionality may not be available.

Not Compatible
Some functionality will not operate correctly. The module should not be used in a system with this release.

1715-AENTR modules with the Effective Date (ED) of 20170317 are pre-programmed with the firmware for 1715 R3.001.
graphic
1715-AENTR modules with a different ED, or with the Hardware Revision I must be updated with the Normal Mode and Recovery Mode firmware listed above using ControlFLASH. Refer to User Manual 1715-UM001 Chapter 2 Installation Instructions, System Software section for details.
It is recommended that all the I/O modules are updated to firmware revision 3.001 using ControlFLASH, to ensure that the correct version is reported for module electronic keying.
I/O modules that are not updated will report the firmware revision 2.003, although they will be functionally identical to the firmware revisions listed above.
Important: It is recommended that ControlFLASH version 13 or higher is used.

IMPORTANT:
Revision 1.005 firmware in the 1715-AENTR and I/O modules is not supported by Revision 3.001 Add On Profiles. It is not possible to keep firmware at Revision 1.005 and to update the Add On Profiles to Revision 3.001.

It is recommended that the firmware in 1715-IF16 modules is updated to 3.001 using ControlFLASH. The 1715-AENTR Normal Mode and Recovery Mode firmware must be updated to the latest versions before ControlFLASH can be used to update I/O modules. For details refer to 1715-UM001 Installation Instructions, System Software.

Features

This release includes the following system features.

Ability to Enable HART Data and HART Pass Through
System Feature First Identified as of 1715-AENTR Firmware Revision 3.001
HART data and HART pass through are now supported on the 1715-IF16 and 1715-OF8I modules.
Refer to 1715 Redundant I/O System User Manual 1715-UM001 for details.
The 1715 HART Device Type Manager (DTM) lets an external asset management system manage HART-compatible field devices connected to a 1715 system.
Download the 1715 HART DTM from the Product Compatibility and Download Center.
NOTE: 1715-IF16 modules must be hardware revision F or later to work correctly with HART.

ControlFLASH for I/O Modules Supported in Recovery Mode

System Feature First Identified as of 1715-AENTR Firmware Recovery Revision 1.011

When the 1715-AENTR is running in Recovery Mode, ControlFLASH can be used to update the firmware on all I/O Module types (1715-IB16D, 1715-IF16, 1715-OB8DE and 1715-OF8I).
The firmware available for the I/O modules in ControlFLASH for revision 3.001 is identical to that in 1715 R2.003.
Refer to 1715 Redundant I/O System User Manual 1715-UM001 for details.

Corrected Anomalies in This Release

This release corrects the following anomalies.

Changes to Current Limits on 1715-IF16 and 1715-OF8I
CORRECTED with 1715-IF16 and 1715-OF8I AOPs V5.01.27
Known Anomaly First Identified as of 1715-IF16 and 1715-OF8I AOPs V3.02.008
The Upper Current Limit For Analog Input / Output Configurations has been changed from 20 mA to 24 mA, which allows field currents greater than 20 mA to be processed. This limitation is enforced by the corresponding module Add On Profile (AOP).
Refer to Knowledge Base article 621519

Known Anomalies in This Release

This release has the following known anomalies.

The input modules 1715-IF16 and 1715-IB16D channel fault due to channel device communication errors

The input channel measurement verification is done with two different chips – Primary Input Processor (PIP) and HART Input Processor (HIP). An anomaly may occur that can cause a communication error between the input channel HIP and PIP. This will result in an input channel fault.

I/O module firmware update errors can occur on chassis with many I/O modules:

Note: This should only affect users with extremely large chassis and/or users which already have communication issues on their system.

There is a known anomaly in which RPI values for IO modules above 480ms are not respected. Regardless of the value set between 480ms and 750ms, the 1715 AENTR will issue IO data at ~480ms RPI. Note, this is not a degradation of functionality from previous versions of the Firmware.
1715 Modules Configured for SIL2 Display a 16#0118 Error when an IP Address was Changed on Either a 1715-AENTR or the Bridge Ethernet Module After Initial Configuration (1723012)

When 1715 modules are configured for SIL2 and the IP address is changed on either the 1715 -AENTR or the upstream bridge Ethernet module after initial configuration, a 16#0118 error occurs. This is because the IP address of the 1715 -AENTR and the bridge Ethernet module are stored in the configuration of every 1715 module; it needs to be updated to reflect the new IP address when changed.

For more information, see 16#0118 when configuring SIL2 with 1715 Modules.
